Collins Pond Club, New Canaan, CT

On a quiet stretch of green acreage in New Canaan, an ivory brick Georgian sits at the edge of Collins Pond – the kind of setting that asks to be brought inside. When our clients came to us to reimagine their full basement level, that idea became the thread running through
every material, sightline, and color choice in the space.

The sequence begins the moment you arrive first in the mudroom, then turn the corner directly into the golf simulator and gym — the anchor of the entire level. Throughout the level, every door carries a custom stripe logo, a quiet signature that ties the rooms together as one continuous idea rather than a string of separate spaces.

The golf simulator and gym are the main event. Together they open the wing to Collins Pond beneath a run of large curved windows, so the water stays in view whether you’re teeing off or mid-workout. A small lounge gives the golf simulator its own place to unwind, and directly across the room, a porthole door leads into a dark, moody screening room whose seating doubles as a sleepover sofa when friends stay over — one of our favorite rooms in the house.

Rounding out the level are two wine cellars, a wet sauna alongside the dry, and a full gym extended toward the water. Every space was built in close partnership with Hobbs Construction and KKD Architects, both of New Canaan – a true collaboration, room by room, to match the beauty of the setting it sits within.

The sauna, is the quieter room next door — a private retreat, layered in limestone and teak, textured and lit for mood, with accents of blue and camel.
