The World of Roughan

Proud to be featured in New England Home Connectic

Proud to be featured in New England Home Connecticut, in Here & There: design discoveries from around Connecticut.

This New Canaan lower level was once a nondescript basement. Today it’s a movie room with an Old Hollywood feel: Phillip Jeffries wallcovering with gold nailhead detail, a custom sectional that converts to a queen-size bed, and a quartet of ottomans in Pierre Frey fabrics. The gold carries through to the kitchenette next door, from the Articolo Studios sconces to the faucet and cabinet hardware.

Thank you to @jennatalbott and Maria LaPiana for the kind words, and to the team who made it happen at @nehomemagazine

Waking up to Central Park never gets old. This Central Park West bedroom was designed to feel serene, sophisticated, and quietly luxurious—because when the view is this good, the room knows exactly when to let it shine.

When Christina Roughan began renovating the cottag

When Christina Roughan began renovating the cottage on her family's property, she discovered horseshoes everywhere, including one under the floorboards from the Boston Rubber Shoe Company that dates back to the late 1800s. Since horseshoes are considered symbols of good luck, Roughan found a use for nearly all of them in her cottage-turned-design-studio.

The horseshoes aren’t the only original elements in the studio, which was built in the 1700s as a tollbooth and cobbler’s shop by one of Weston’s founding families, the Godfreys. The building’s chestnut beams date back to its origin, as does the stone surrounding the fireplace and some of the shiplap on the walls.

During this time of year, flames crackle in the fireplace, coffee percolates in the kitchenette, and everything from French music to rock ’n’ roll plays in the background. Upstairs, a loft acts as a spot to meet with clients and staff, store fabric and paint books, and showcase a prized possession: a porcelain Jason Miller antler chandelier that Roughan purchased when she was in her twenties and at the beginning of her career.

We’re honored to be named the 2026
A-List Award Winner for the bedroom category.

Inspired by the sweeping mangrove and ocean views, this space was designed to bring the outside in—layering soft greens and sun-washed yellows so the room feels like a natural extension of the landscape.

Thank you @athomefc for this wonderful recognition. We’re truly grateful to see this special project celebrated. And thank you to Joshua McHugh for capturing it so beautifully.

For me, collecting and designing have always been

For me, collecting and designing have always been one and the same. My devotion to Jean-Michel Frank, the Parisian master of luxurious restraint, began in my early twenties and has shaped my eye ever since.

In this foyer, a parchment screen in the spirit of Frank’s 1930s originals rises quietly beneath a sweeping black-lacquered stair. I paired it with a cerused black oak pedestal and a 19th-century Swedish bronze urn with dolphin-form handles, a vignette that balances classical gravitas with modernist calm. The effect is sophisticated yet entirely livable.

Every home should have a screen with soul, one that will last for generations. ✨

What piece in your home would you pass down? 👇
